WordPress 3.0 “Thelonious”
Updated: Jan 26, 2022
A little late I know, but I have been realy busy over here loads going on at webfanatix, as we will surely reveal in the next few weeks…
So I finally had some time to look at the latest release of wordpress , or as the creators have lovingly dubbed it: WordPress 3.0 “Thelonious”. Now I for one have never liked it when people referred to wordpress as a CMS( Content Management System), Blogging engine… sure CMS, no. There was just to few options in a standard wordpress installation ( no custom menu, limited side-bar configurability etc.) I guess I was just al little spoilt by joomla. I am in no way saying that joomla is better or that wordpress is inferior. They are two different things entirely or at least they used to be. I quickly learned that despite all the awesome features included in a standard joomla install, the people that ended up using it( clients ) found it difficult to use and understand. So I turned to wordpress as an alternative and though I found it a little lacking in some aspects I have to admit that it is very easy to use, the documentation is good and the end-users / our clients are much more comfortable using it. So feast your eyes on all the new features that will make developing / building / maintaining wordpress sites even more of a pleasure.
For a more comprehensive look at everything that has improved in 3.0 check out 3.0′s Codex page or the long list of issues in Trac. (We’re trying to keep these announcement posts shorter.) Whew! That’s a lot packed into one release. I can’t think of a better way to kick off the 3.X cycle we’ll be in for the next two and a half years.
Well done to all they guys and girls who contributed to an excellent release!
